I have over 12 years of experience working as a developer, manager and designer in the web industry. My most recent position was Director of Products for Piczo.com, a teen social network and website creator with over 14 million uniques (comScore). Prior to that I was the User Experience manager for Hi5.com, an international social network with over 60 million members (comScore). As a freelance web design and UI consultant, I worked for ChevronTexaco and Plurimi, a B2B start-up creating demand management solutions for the energy market. Prior to running my freelance business, I worked at MarketWatch where I oversaw the development of co-branded Web sites, video and headline feeds for AOL and developed the first generation publishing system and portfolios. I got my start working in interactive advertising for Leo Burnett creating e-commerce sites for Oldsmobile, Hallmark and United Airlines.
From 2000-2006, I was a lecturer in the art department at Cal State University – East Bay. I taught classes in web design, digitalimaging and professional practices. I also serving as a thesis advisor for the Multimedia graduate program, advising students on projects that involve online communities, transnational collaboration and location-based storytelling.
My creative work includes installation, painting and performance to create interactive peformance environments that invite audience interaction. I have exhibited my work throughout the Bay Area, including solo exhibitons for Pro Arts Gallery and the June Steingart Gallery. From 2001 to 2008 I in a large number of performance art collaborations with Abraham Burickson through our fiscally sponsored organization, Odyssey Works.
I am also a professional actor and a member of Actor’s Equity. I studied method acting with David Downs at Northwestern University, improv in Chicago with Del Close at ImprovOlympic and was a regular member of Richard Seyd’s acting studio in San Francisco. Some of my favorite roles include Biff in Death of A Salesman for Hapgood Theatre, Talthybius in Trojan Woman for Aurora Theatre, Raguneau in Cyrano de Bergac for Shotgun Players and Tom in Glass Menagerie for Masquers Playhouse, Henry in The Real Thing at Busbarn Stage , Oswald in King Lear for Marin Shakespeare, Felix Humble in Humble Boy for Ross Valley Players and The Drum Major in Woyzeck for Cutting Ball Theatre. I have understudied roles with Berkeley Repertory, California Shakespeare and TheatreWorks and appeared in a number of indepenant films.
As a director, I have worked with Victory Gardens Theatre, Roadworks Production, Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival and American Stage Festival. While at Northwestern, I also directed plays such as Death of A Salesman and Cyrano de Bergerac. During this time, I was also the producer and creative director of The Campus Beat, Chicago’s first interactive-improvised sitcom.
I was born in Cincinnati, Ohio where I lived in Hyde Park and attended Kilgour Elementary School. I graduted from Walnut Hills High School magna cum laude. I studied theatre at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. I lived in Chicago for 3 years before moving to the Bay Area. I lived in Oakland while in graudate school at JFK University where I earned my MFA. I currently reside in Noe Valley with my fiancee, actress Liz Sklar. My hobbies include gourmet cooking, hiking, backpacking and winemaking.
